2015 Bookish Goals

Happy New Year!!!

new year

How awesome is this? Another year has passed and we're now facing a new year that's bound to be exciting, fun, and yes, FULL OF BOOKS! I'm so giddy with excitement!

Beginnings are always exciting, although a bit terrifying because you don't know what's gonna happen. But that makes it more exciting, doesn't it? And with every New Year comes the ever-present tradition of coming up with New Year's resolutions.

I haven't had New Year's resolutions for a long time, only because I'm lazy to write one. Maybe that should be my resolution -- stop being lazy. Oh well. But as a reader and book blogger, I have some goals for 2015. My new reading goal in Goodreads is 50, a bit higher than last year but still attainable, considering my work schedule. I made my goals realistic so I won't be complaining afterwards:

2015 Bookish Goals
1. Read more print books.
I don't just want to do this... I NEED to do this if I want to continue reading until I'm old. I have poor eyesight and reading ebooks, although very convenient, is not helping the case. So yeah, more print books this year. I know I'll be facing storage problems later on but that's a slightly better problem, right?

2. Read books from genres I don't usually tackle, especially classics.
I don't discriminate on genres. I can ready anything... but classics intimidate me. I used to read them so I don't know why I suddenly stopped. Well now, I will try to read at least 3 classic pieces this year. Besides classics I also have fear of horror books so maybe this year I'll give it a try. And I haven't tried reading James Grisham-type of books, so maybe I'll do that.

3. Do slam book interviews with authors I love.
This is more of a dream than a goal but maybe it's time to be more gutsy, huh?

4.. Go to at least 1 book signing/bookish event this year.
As mentioned earlier, I'm lazy. I've never been to a signing, and last year I didn't even go to the Manila International Book Fair. Time to change that.

5. Make new bookish friends.
Who doesn't want new friends? I certainly need more, but preferably bookish ones, just so I have people I can fangirl with. Maybe you're interested? :D

Besides these 5 goals, I'm also doing this challenge from PopSugar, which my friend Yumi shared to me:

2015 Reading Challenge
I am under no delusion of checking off all items in this list but still, it's a good list, right?

Now I want to hear from you. What are your reading/blogging goals? New Year's resolutions? Let me know in the Comments. :)

  1. I need to read more of my print books just cause I got way to many. UGH. I am going to try the popsugar challenge too but there are some on there that don't make sense and some just not doable for everyone.

I aim to attend as many books signing as i can this year. last year was really fun! also buy more printed books to add to my growing collection. and maybe watch a lot of film adaptation. i haven't been watching tv or movies that much last year. 5. Happy new year Joy! I wish us all a great new year ahead filled with books and awesomeness :D

Those are great goals, I never really set up one for myself but that one from popsugar definitely looks fun to do. Last year, my goal was 100 and I read more that 150 so that was pretty good. I might have to lower it though, with school and work, I might not even have time to read as much :(

  8. It's okay, Amir. We all have lives outside books, albeit less colorful than the ones inside books. I have scheduled this post in advance so I didn't know that there would be life-changing events that would happen to me during my break. Now, I'm not so sure if I can still achieve these goals. But I'm still looking forward to what the year will bring. Happy New Year, Amir!

  12. That Popsugar challenge was so cool! But yeah, I doubt I could finish it either. I don't even know an author with the initials S.C. but it's still fun. :D I hope you succeed in your goals, Joy, and happy new year!

  13. My New Year's resolution is to eat fries before the burger when I have burger and french fries. Because otherwise the fries get cold, and cold fries are no good. Yeah, I can really feel this is gonna improve my life xD

I think your resolutions make more sense though xD

  14. What do you read e-books on?
I life your New Year resolutions. Mine is to always eat fries before the burger when I have burgers and fries, so they don't get cold :D

  15. That reading challenge is fun. Classic books are indeed challenging. I'm so glad I was given a whole set of Sherlock Holmes last christmas but the thickness and the font size is so intimidating that all I can do is stare at it and just smile.. Ha-ha(sugar-coating laziness) Anyways, hope you can achieve all these goals.

  16. Hello, Vee! Yes, classics scare me. But I used to read them (can't remember why I stopped) so I'm sure I can do it this year. Thanks for dropping by. I know I've been a lousy blogging friend lately but I'm finding my way back. :)

  17. There's this awesome Android app that has free ebooks in it, not just classics but new releases, too. Which is actually piracy but I try to compensate by buying the print copies of the ones that I really enjoyed. But now, that app is not working properly anymore (no idea why) so I am forced to read more print books.

And yes, your resolution is a great one. Might copy that. Thanks, Felicia! :)
